MACKILLOP College student Celina Harrower is stamping her way into Australian history.
The Year 11 Visual Communication and Design student has been selected to represent her school and Victoria with a commemorative stamp she designed for the 2014 G20 Summit.
Celina is one of five national finalists hopeful to have their stamp become the official stamp for Australia’s G20 host year.
“It’s so cool,” an excited Celina said. “I’m really honoured.”
Celina said a lot of research went into her design.
She said she focused on trying to reflect and represent the significance of the G20 summit through her stamp while paying respect to the host city, Brisbane.
“I thought Brisbane itself needed to be recognised because they are the host city,” she said.
“I specifically researched things like previous logos, elements about the G20 summit and what it’s about.”
Celina, who is hoping to pursue her passion for design at university, is happy to have come so far with her design.
“It’s great being able to create something that can represent something so important,” she said.
“And share the process that I went through, and my interpretations of the G20 which will be reflected and interpreted by so many more people.”
Celina’s Visual Communication and Design teacher Silvio Mannello said Celina’s design was unique.
“From a design perspective it is distinctive, it sets itself from the rest,” Mr Mannello said.
“We’re very proud of her and if she wins, loses or draws we’re really happy with the effort she’s gone to and that she’s been recognised in this forum and in this way.”
