A FORMER AFL player will be tackling the West’s weight problems when he brings a unique exercise program to the area.
Justin Charles, who played for the Western Bulldogs and Richmond in the late 1980s and early ’90s, grew up in Williamstown and now lives in Seabrook.
While he has taken his mantra of 80 per cent healthy eating and 20 per cent active lifestyle to other parts of Australia and the world, this month will mark the first time he has brought to his home suburb.
Mr Charles will be hosting the Western Region Fitclub from the Point Cook Cricket Club facilities.
He said the program would see members of the community come along for free exercise classes before participants share information and tips on eating healthier.
Mr Charles said he would be using his own life experiences to guide the program.
“Once I turned 35 years old I started putting on about a kilo a year, even though I was eating really healthily,” Mr Charles said.
“I had undiagnosed chronic fatigue syndrome and I was just always tired.
“Now I just want to help other people get their health and wellbeing back on track too.”
Mr Charles said he now enjoyed exercise again and he wanted to share that joy with other people from the West.
“I love feeling great every day, and living a full and active lifestyle,” he said.
“There’s nothing better than feeling and looking as well as you can.”
He said it was also important that all members of the community, no matter their age, race or religion, could feel comfortable joining Fitclub.
Fitclub will be launched at the Point Cook Cricket Club on Friday 29 November at 7.30pm.
