ABOUT 3000 people are expected to enjoy the festivities of the Werribee Cup this weekend with the General Manager of the Racing Club giving a “one million per cent” guarantee that it will go ahead as planned.
Ross Kendell told Star live music, fashions on the field, marquees and, of course, horses, would make the day a community event to remember.
While controversy has followed the Werribee Racing Club and particularly their signature event recently, Mr Kendell said he was confident that was in the past.
“It’s just going to be a great day for people to come along, let their hair down and catch up with friends before Christmas,” Mr Kendell said.
“We’ve been ready for this for a long time so we’re confident everyone will have a great time.”
Mr Kendell said one of the highlights of the day would of course be the fashions on the field which was being sponsored by Wyndham City Council, with ambassadors Edwin Jup and Alex Hecker also judging the event.
The Cup was originally planned to go ahead in November but concerns about the track forced the event to be postponed to this Sunday.
Following glowing reports from jockeys and trackwork riders, Mr Kendell said there was no doubt the track would offer a great day of racing.
“We’ll be having eight races on the day, which is just the perfect amount,” he said.
“The track really could not be in any better nick.”
