HOPPERS CROSSING sisters Kim and Karen will be shaving off their long, black locks this March for the Leukaemia Foundation’s annual World’s Greatest Shave fundraiser.
The sisters will be taking to the shaver and scissors in support of their mother Jessica Escoton who was diagnosed with Myelodysplastic syndrome, a bone marrow disorder, last year in March.
“My mum is a nurse, she’s always been a caring person who has been there to help others and she inspired us to help out and raise money for those who are affected by leukaemia,” Kim said.
“It will be in honour for her,” she said.
The 19 year-old student has put a hold to her studies this year to support and care for her mother and shaving her hair is just another way of showing her unlimited support for her mum.
Ms Escoton will be undergoing her treatment in the coming months, which will also cause her to lose her hair.
“My sister and I thought we can at least do this one thing for her to show her and others that we fully support what she is going through and we are here for her,” Kim said.
“She will go through major physical and mental issues,” she said.
“This is just a little thing we can do just to give her that boost and that support,” she said.
“My hair will grow back again it doesn’t really faze me.”
The sisters have already raised almost $2000 in the two weeks since they registered.
They will shave all their hair off at an event open to the public on 15 March.
