WERRIBEE Racing Club is proving to be a hotspot this month. The club is hosting three race days through March, the first of which was last week.
After having some track issues in 2013, Werribee general manager Ross Kendell is rapt to have the track back to its best.
Kendell said he had received great feedback at last week’s meeting.
“It is a great time of year through the autumn. We are getting the nice weather and the consistent racing which is fantastic,” Kendell said.
“The track continues to perform really well and we got great feedback from the jockeys about how well it is going.
“When we went through a bit of a difficult period during the spring, I said at that stage we were confident that the track would be fine. It was just a matter of timing and getting over that hurdle.
“We are well over it now, having had four race meetings since the spring and a couple more lined up.”
Kendell also congratulated the club’s ground staff for their hard work in getting the track to its current high standard.
“We have had a lot of support from the people in the racing industry in terms of getting the right consultants involved, having the right advice and then all the work being done by the Werribee ground staff has been fantastic.
“They have done an outstanding job and they just put their heart and soul into it. We are reaping the benefits because of their hard work.”
Werribee it set to host another four meetings in the coming months including its Community Race Day this Thursday.
The special event aims to pay tribute to the hard-working community groups in Wyndham.
This will be the second year in a row Werribee is running the event.
“The Community Race Day was an initiative that the club came up with last year,” Kendell said.
“It is a day to recognise the efforts and the contribution that all the community groups make for the benefit of the community.
“Last year, we were delighted with the response we got and people got right behind it. This year our bookings are already well ahead of last year’s event so we are expecting it to be a great day.”
