IT HAS been 30 years since Hoppers Crossing Secondary College first opened its gates to teachers and students.
And to celebrate the school will be hosting a dinner filled with presentations, live entertainment and a gallery reflecting the past 30 years this weekend.
Current College Principal Wayne Terrill said he looked forward to celebrating the milestone, which also marked the beginning of his teaching career at the school.
“I think there will be a lot of reminiscing happening on the night,” Mr Terrill said.
Mr Terrill was one of the first of the 23 staff members who started at the school when it opened in March 1984.
He said there had been a lot of changes since the early days, including new and improved uniforms, buildings and of course new technology.
“We are a netbook school now, back in the 80s netbooks weren’t even heard of,” Mr Terrill said.
Mr Terrill said the highlight over the years was watching the school’s growth.
From 23 staff members in 1984 to now 150, 30 years down the track.
The school’s popularity has also grown with more parents opting to send their children to the College, and the school now has 1400 students enrolled, Mr Terrill said.
“I think we’ve become a viable option for a lot of parents now, in terms of a recommended school parents want to send their children,” he said.
The 30 Year Reunion celebrations will be held at Sheldon Reception Centre on 15 March.
