A RARE collection of Australian artwork depicting an often overlooked subject is currently on display in Werribee.
The original watercolour and ink drawings of a different year in fashion have been created by Castlemaine artist Lisa Hales and when placed in order, create a visual timeline of Australian fashion through the years.
The artworks are currently being shown at the Gift Givers Gallery in Watton St, Werribee and owner Jan Grapsas said after only being on display for a few days they had already proven very popular.
“We’ve had an amazing response,” Ms Grapsas said.
“They catch your eye because of how they’ve been done. I had a lady come in the other day who just stood here for an hour staring at each one.”
Ms Grapsas said she felt the artwork spoke to women because it reminds them of how their mothers or grandmothers used to dress.
“Australian fashion isn’t something that’s celebrated very often. I think it’s very unique,” she said.
“They take in such a fantastic history and they are a stunning visual treat.”
The pieces are on display at the Gift Givers Gallery at 54 Watton St. For more information call 8742 6642.
