ALMOST half a million dollars will be spent on a dangerous intersection in Wyndham with much-needed works receiving funding in last week’s Federal budget.
The Gillard government will spend $497,000 on fixing the intersection of Leakes Rd and Palmers Rd in Truganina.
The money will be spent on widening the road, adding traffic lanes and installing a Fully Controlled Right Turn, advisory signs and linemarking.
The funding is part of the Black Spot Program which aims to fix roads notorious for crashes throughout Australia.
There have been 11 serious injuries recorded at the Leakes Rd intersection.
Wyndham’s Mayor, Kim McAliney, said while she welcomed the funding announcement, both the State and Federal budgets had been disappointing for Wyndham overall.
“While this is good for Wyndham, there are still so many other roads that need funding in Wyndham like Forsyth Rd for example,” Cr McAliney told Star.
As part of the budget almost $2.5 million was announced to fund “smart infrastructure technologies” to reduce congestion and improve traffic demand management and overall efficiency on the West Gate Freeway.
A spokesperson for Prime Minister Julia Gillard said 17,050 families in the Lalor electorate would benefit from the SchoolKids Bonus while more than 23,000 families would receive the increased Family Tax Benefit A payments.
More than half a billion dollars was also set aside so that construction can continue on the Regional Rail Link.
