HE IS the CEO of one of the fastest growing companies in Australia, a self-made millionaire, and he wants to be a Wyndham City councillor.
Intaj Khan has lived in Truganina for almost one year and in that time he has noticed a lot of things wrong with the booming suburb.
Born in India before moving to Australia in 1998, Mr Khan has gone from owning a mobile phone shop in Sydney to running the Western Institute of Technology, the 14th fastest growing company in Australia, according to BRW.
Mr Khan said he chose to run for a position on his local council after seeing a lack of infrastructure funding and action in Wyndham.
“There’s a lot of work needed in the community. I believe my skills will bring a lot more investment into the area,” Mr Khan said.
“I’ve gone through the council’s plan for the city and I believe there is a big surplus in it and I can improve on the plan, so I’d like to see what Wyndham residents want done in their community.”
Mr Khan also revealed to Star last week that he had made an offer to provide funds to save the western suburb’s failing Mowbray College after it was announced the school was being crushed by $18 million of debt.
The Western Institute of Technology is a training organisation that focuses on skills shortages and provides diplomas and courses for international and domestic students.
Mr Khan said if elected, he would work to use his business skills to bring more jobs to Wyndham.
“Education and employment is my strength and my real passion,” he said.
“We need more education facilities in Wyndham so that the area is up to date with the skills needed to deal with the enormous growth in population.”
Mr Khan, a member of the Labor Party, will be running against both the Mayor, Kim McAliney, and Deputy Mayor, Glenn Goodfellow, as well as Cr Bob Fairclough in the Truganina Ward.
