Recycling range widens

WYNDHAM City Council has signed a new recycling contract which will allow residents to place a wider range of items in their recycling bins.
The council signed the contract with SKM Recycling to receive kerbside recyclables from households and businesses in Wyndham.
Items including steel pots and pans, dry and empty paint tins, plastic plant pots and plastic toys can now be recycled.
Iramoo Ward councillor Cynthia Manson said the changes mean less waste will be sent to landfill.
“Increasing the types of household items that can be recycled is a great result, as it will save thousands of items from landfill each year,” Cr Manson said.
She said the new recycling service will reduce greenhouse gas emissions and place less pressure on natural resources to produce virgin materials.
“There will be no change in the day or process for bin collection, but the change will bring many environmental and economic benefits,” she said.
The council has also released a Recycling and Waste Services guide which gives residents a comprehensive overview of how to dispose items.
Wyndham residents are invited to take a tour of the SKM recycling facility to see what happens to their items after they have been collected.
