Brittan prepares for council battle – again

WELL known Wyndham resident Marie Brittan has resigned from her job in order to allow her to run for a position on Wyndham Council.
Ms Brittan was forced to give up her role as a councillor in 2009 after a State Government Bill banning councillors working for politicians was introduced.
Ms Britton said last week that at the time she refused to give up her day job working as an electorate officer for Member for Tarneit Tim Pallas but also did not want to give up being a councillor.
“I didn’t choose either of the options given to me. I let them strike me off because I was elected and I thought it would be really bad to turn my back on Wyndham,” Ms Brittan told Star.
“I had really no choice because I worked for the money and one of the things I’ve always said was I’d like to return to the council.”
Ms Brittan said the pressures facing Wyndham when she was last on council have only increased.
“The biggest issue is catching up with the population growth. We need to advocate for the creation of more employment opportunities in Wyndham to help relieve the pressures on our roads,” she said.
“I don’t think things have changed at all in that regard.”
The Hoppers Crossing resident of 23 years said her six years spent in Tim Pallas’ office had given her a greater understanding of what residents want.
“Working for Tim has allowed me to really see what makes the community tick,” she said.
“My motto is let’s build a community, not just houses.”
