A YOUNG man with a passion for helping the less fortunate in our society wants to do his part for Wyndham.
Mohammed Isah, 23, moved to Australia from Nigeria where his father was a prominent politician when he was 12 years old.
The Truganina resident, who is currently working as a social worker, was announced as the Wyndham Young Achiever of the year in 2008 and in 2011 was elected to the advisory board of the Multifaith Multicultural Youth Network.
In October this year he will be running for a place on the Wyndham Council as a candidate for the Truganina Ward.
“I moved to Australia to have a better life and to be safe. Australia is a country that gives opportunities to people no matter what their background is,” Mr Isah told Star.
“I want to give back to the community that has given me so much and that is why I am running for council.”
Mr Isah said his campaign was based on the need for Wyndham Council to get “back to basics”.
“Even in my background as a social worker I am not the expert, the people are the experts,” he said.
“The ratepayers known what they need and we should listen to them and let them guide us in our decisions.”
Mr Isah said the most important issue in Wyndham at the moment was the need to improve local roads and reduce traffic congestion.
“It may not be glamorous, but I will campaign on preparing our roads and infrastructure for a growing population, providing certainty in planning and development, and keeping our city presentable,” he said.
“Everyone knows the frustration of being stuck in Wyndham’s traffic for hours.”
