A GROUP of talented teenagers from Wyndham are turning into an internet phenomenon.
Known as ‘The Maozziez’ – a name which reflects their Maori and Aussie culture – the youngsters have gained thousands of fans since they began posting videos on the internet site YouTube last year.
They have uploaded more than 20 clips including parodies of pop songs and a comedic fitness challenge.
Their spoof of the ‘Ghost Chips’ song has been watched by more than 16,000 YouTube viewers.
The group has also posted videos called ‘Maozziez Got Talent’ showcasing the singing and dancing skills of young Wyndham residents.
The Maozziez members include Kaya Tahana, Atea Tutu, Te Awhi Tutu, Jahmal Paul, Khan and Charnze Nicoll-Klokstaad.
They attend Hoppers Crossing Secondary College, The Grange P-12 College and Point Cook Senior Secondary College.
The youngsters spent last week filming with New Zealand TV producer Jay Fewake who has commissioned them to create 12 minute-long segments for his television show.
Kaya said the group created videos to encourage Wyndham’s young people to take pride in their creative abilities.
“Young people in the area have a bad reputation and it’s to show their good side,” he said.
“We’ve been doing it all our lives off-camera and we reckon we’re pretty funny,” Jahmal said.
“We wanted to show the talent young people have in the area, because there is so much talent in this community and we just want to put it out there for people to see.”
Each Maozzie has several artistic talents but Charnze is also a gifted rugby player.
He is a member of the Under-18 Melbourne Storm team and has served as vice-captain of the Victorian Under-18 State Team.
The group’s future videos will include a parody of the Carly Rae Jepsen song ‘Call Me Maybe’ and the release of their original song ‘Scabbers’.
