WERRIBEE proved no match for Old Melburnians in the Victorian Amateur Football Association on Saturday, going down by 62 points at Soldiers Reserve.
The Tigers were slow out of the blocks and never recovered as Old Melburnians peppered the goals throughout the strong four quarter performance.
Inaccurate kicking further hampered Werribee’s attempts to get back into the match with the home side going into three-quarter time with 2.8 on the board.
There would be no miraculous comeback for the Tigers in the final quarter as Old Melburnians held on for the comfortable win, 15.18 (108) to 6.10 (46).
Aaron Taylor worked hard for Werribee up forward and finished the match with three goals to be the club’s only multiple goalkicker for the match.
The loss sees Werribee remain in eighth spot on the Premier B ladder after 14 rounds.
This week the Tigers will take on seventh placed AJAX for the chance to move up on the ladder.
WERRIBEE Centrals enjoyed a day out in round 16 of the Geelong and Districts Football League, smashing Geelong West SC by 208 points on Saturday.
It was an outstanding effort at both ends of the ground from Werribee which was able to restrict Geelong to just one goal while kicking 33 throughout the day.
The icing on the cake came in the final quarter as the Centrals slammed on nine goals to put an exclamation point on the 33.20 (218) to 1.4 (10) win.
In total, 13 Werribee players kicked goals while nine finished the match with two or more in a dominating performance.
The best of the bunch was David Leatch who finished the match with seven majors while Taylor Montebruno kicked six.
As well as being a great percentage boost, the win lifts the Centrals to fourth on the GDFL ladder with a 10-5 win/loss record this year and one draw.
It should be a tougher task this week for Werribee which will meet seventh-placed Anakie.
HOPPERS Crossing resident Russell Mark confirmed the London Olympics would be his last after bowing out of the men’s double trap shooting event last week.
Mark finished 20th in qualifying with scores of 43, 41, and 44 to post an overall total of 128.
Also in the shooting event, Keilor’s Adam Vella remains alive in his quest to make the final of the men’s trap with another two rounds of qualifying still to take place.
In Judo, Werribee’s Ivo Dos Santos had his Olympic campaign halted in the men’s 66kg event when he lost to home town hero Colin Oates while Ibrahim Balla fell just short of making the quarter finals of the boxing event.
Balla, also from Werribee, won his first fight on a count back before going down to Bulgarian opponent Detelin Dalakliev.

After dropping game one in overtime Australia bounced back to defeat Russia 70-66 in its second outing.
A TYPICALLY tough Little River crosswind left riders contesting Round 22 of the Footscray Cycling Club’s Winter Road Season all scrambling for a wheel, with guest Camperdown rider Dylan Hatley taking the sprint in the A Grade race.
With two laps to go, Ben Johnson put riders to the test with a sustained run ‘in the gutter’, and at this stage the race broke apart, with two groups of five riders separated by over a minute.
In the final run to the line it was Hatley who managed to hold off Stuart Morgan who crossed in second and Jason Costin who crossed in third place.
It was another guest rider, Adam Cullen from Geelong, who took a well-deserved win in the B-Grade race. Cullen survived the plethora of attacks in the first few laps doled out by several riders, including powerhouse Xavier Coppock, Chris Munro and Naish Chapman. Cullen took the sprint from the in-form Bernie O’Sullivan and the ever-dangerous Phil Tehan. C-Grade winner Andrew Schieseck may find himself looking at a promotion with his win, taking the sprint from Ross Schubach and new rider Matthew Whiting.
While in D-Grade results, Marty Kilduff outsprinted Rob Stonehouse and John Paxton to take cross the line in first place.
