IAN Bunn is capturing important moments in history through art.
The Werribee artist’s newest project Spinning Pop involves creating daily compilations of manipulated digital images about iconic people, places and events.
His latest work will be putting the artwork on exhibition at the Wyndham Art Gallery in Werribee.
Mr Bunn said he intended to create a sentimental piece, capturing the faces of important people that influenced his daily life.
“I realised that it’s not so much the event, it’s the people behind it,” Mr Bunn said.
“There’s nearly seven billion people in this world and all we seem to know about is the celebrities and maybe it is time someone else got their little fifteen minutes of fame.”
Mr Bunn began exploring digital manipulation after completing a Masters of Visual Art in 2007.
He started the project three years ago and has created over 1000 images which have all been posted online.
Mr Bunn said it had been difficult to decide which faces he wanted to include in the gallery.
“I chose not just painters but a much broader scope of artists and people who do some very specific art to show that art is not just pictures on a wall, it can be many, many things.”
He hopes to continue the project for another two years.
Mr Bunn said he was excited to display his work in a commercial gallery alongside other local artists.
“It’s a great opportunity and it’s great to have an art space like this in an outer suburban area,” he said.
“A lot of the high growth outer suburban areas are really lacking in infrastructure, particularly when it comes to arts and culture.”
Spinning Pop will be on display at the Wyndham Arts Gallery from Thursday 16 July to 30 September.
