POINT Cook’s first online market is creating a buzz in the arts and crafts community, and it is not even open for business yet.
Karen Burgess, a busy Point Cook mother of two, decided to set up the Point Cook Online Market on social networking site Facebook after participating in a similar one based out of Wodonga.
“There’s so many mothers making crafty things at home but they don’t get a chance to go to markets,” Ms Burgess said.
“I haven’t participated in in open air markets because I feel like it would be taking away from my time with my kids or my mum. I figured there was a lot of other mums and dads in the same situation.”
The idea is that local artisans can register to sell their items online and become a “stall holder” when regular market days are held.
The first official market will be held 6 to 8 September.
Ms Burgess said she hoped the market would help promote homemade items from Point Cook.
“I think there are a lot of people from Point Cook and other areas that are perhaps interested in buying online but they are deterred by the cost of postage,” she said.
“A requirement of being a stallholder is that all the items need to be available for pick up.”
After just six days of launching the market’s facebook page Ms Burgess had already reached the maximum number of stall holders for next month’s market.
