Students turn to careers

HOPPERS Crossing students are starting young with more than 200 primary school children taking part in a fun career development day.
Grade five and six students from Grange College in Hoppers Crossing took part in mock job interviews earlier this month conducted by a panel of parents, local business owners and teachers in preparation for their future careers.
In previous career development sessions, students had determined the jobs they wanted to apply for, and then developed the sets of qualities, skills and experience they could bring to the job. Students then produced individual cover letters and resumes which formed the basis of the mock applications for interviews.
A spokesperson for the school said they held 228 interviews with police officer being picked by 19 students, making it the most popular career choice.
Other popular choices included fashion designers, vets, electronic games developers and chefs while other choices included a neurologist, archaeologist, a botanist, a dairy farmer and a tattooist.
The day was part of an extended careers development plan at The Grange, which aims to assist young people in three stages of career development including self development, career exploration and career management.
