Taxi driver rape charges

A TAXI driver who allegedly raped two of his female passengers in separate incidents was refused bail as he appeared before the Melbourne Magistrates Court last week.
The cab driver is alleged to have raped two passengers close to their homes after engaging them in conversation.
The 24 year-old is alleged to have raped a 33-year-old female passenger on 29 March after dropping off her two male companions.
Two weeks ago, it is alleged that he touched his second intoxicated victim’s knee, stroked her hair and kissed her hand before grabbing her around the throat and raping her in the back seat.
The Melbourne Magistrates Court was told the taxi driver, a Pakistani national on a student visa, had booked a flight out of Australia after committing the second rape.
The Magistrate refused bail and the man will re-appear in court on 21 December.
