Bill takes up the baton

A CHANGING of the guard at Hastings Choristers will see renowned Emeritus Professor William (Bill) Hawkey MBE take over guest conductor duties for Term 3 while regular Music Director, Robyn Ryan, takes a well-earned break.
Bill has had a distinguished career in music and the arts and until 1999 was director and professor of Music at the Australian National University in Canberra.
At the end of 2012 he retired after 11 years as conductor of the Montague Choristers on the South Coast of NSW but he remains actively involved in music and continues as the choir’s accompanist.
Bill plays a significant role in the musical life of the Sapphire Coast of NSW and derives much pleasure from the achievements of his piano students.
He gives piano and organ recitals, raising funds through the Mahboba Foundation for Afghan women and orphans.
Hastings Choristers are very excited to have the opportunity to learn from Professor Hawkey during the 10 weeks he will be in Port Macquarie.
This could be the perfect time to join or rejoin the choir and members of other local singing groups are welcome to come along and take advantage of Bill’s expertise.
Rehearsals commence at 6.30pm on Monday 15 July at MacKillop Senior College hall in Lochinvar Place, Port Macquarie and continue each Monday evening culminating in a concert on Sunday 8 September.
Come along to the first rehearsal or contact the Choristers’ secretary, Lorraine, on 0413 181 951 for more information.
