OCEAN and weather conditions were near perfect for the Port Macquarie Blue Water Fishing Club’s outing on Sunday.
Three boats ventured seaward with seven fishers on board.
The club’s barbecue and weigh-in started at noon and was well supported by members, families and friends.
Fish that greeted the weighmaster included flathead, snapper, morwong, jewfish, trag and the odd leatherjacket.
The best boat on the day was Gunna, skippered by Jim Fischer with 19.18 points and the runner-up was Little Tinnie, skippered by Ashley Roods.
The Mid Coast Marine award for the heaviest catch was won by Geoff Shelton with 20.28 points, while the Kempsey-Macleay Holden and Marine award for the best morwong was won by Barry Ingram with a fish of 660g.
The Port Macquarie Private Hospital most species award was won by Shelton and the Protect Pest Control prize for the best of other species was also won by the club president, with a leatherjacket tipping the scales at 1.42kg.
The club’s next outing will be held on Sunday 11 August.
The weigh-in and barbecue will start at noon at the marina.
Anyone wishing to join the club or attend the weigh-ins and barbecue are most welcome.
