PORT City Breakers upstaged rivals Port Macquarie to win a thrilling elimination final in the Group 3 rugby league competition on Sunday.
Skipper Josh Hyde led the way for the underdogs, scoring two tries in an upset 28-22 win at Regional Stadium.
It was amazing comeback by the Breakers, who trailed 18-4, but made the most of the breeze in the second half to overrun the Sharks.
Hyde was joined on the scoresheet by James Ahoy, Dean Meyer and Ricky Arnell, while Luke Ackroyd booted four conversions for the Breakers.
Winger Oral Monaghan was one of the standouts for the Sharks, kicking three goals to go with this try.
Michael Roberts, Danny Graham and Scott Grant were the others to cross the line for Port Macquarie.
The Sharks are now out of the finals race, while the Breakers travel south this Saturday to tackle the Forster Tuncurry Hawks.
The Hawks were beaten 36-28 by Old Bar on Saturday.
The Pirates play Wauchope this Sunday in the second semi-final, with the winner to earn a week off and a grand final berth.
The Blues should be fresh after a week’s break and will be the hot favourites on their home deck at Lank Bain Oval.
