Advocacy against water fluoridation will be at the core of a presentation by Professor Paul Connett (PhD), an academic environmental chemist and author, who will be a guest speaker in Port Macquarie next week.
Local residents opposing environmental pollution, including mandatory water fluoridation, are sponsoring Professor Connett’s visit, which will be part of a hectic 17-day Australian tour to Perth, Adelaide, Ballina/Lismore, Port Macquarie and Mildura.
Prof Connett will make his voice heard at Port Macquarie Panthers, commencing at 7.30pm on Friday, February 18.
Dr Connett will speak on what he believes are the long-term health risks associated with water fluoridation.
Professor Connett is the President of FAN (Fluoride Action Network) which is based in the USA.
The purpose of this organisation is to educate citizens of the US, Canada, Britain and Ireland, and Australia and New Zealand on the health risks associated with water fluoridation via the group’s website www.fluoridealert.org, said local anti-fluoride advocate Dr John Lusk.
“In 2011, the US health authorities acknowledged that dental fluorosis has been increasing over recent decades,” he said.
“It was inferred from this observation that children have been consuming increasing amounts of total fluoride load from their food, beverages and drinking water.
“This set alarm bells ringing to the extent that the same health authorities are now recommending a 30 per cent lowering of the fluoride content in drinking water from 1.0 to 0.7ppm, when the content should be zero.
“It is imperative that local health professionals, our local and federal and state members of parliament, and our council are fully briefed on the health risks posed by dumping industry’s toxic fluoride waste in our drinking water.”
The talk is open to the public, is free, with a gold coin donation at the door appreciated.
