One of the most noxious and potentially fatal plants is threatening local bushland.
The plant, Glory Lilly (Gloriosasuperba) is one of the most invasive plants that is not only threatening local flora, but is also known to be fatally toxic if ingested.
Port Macquarie-Hastings Council’s natural Resources Officer, Thor Aaso said, “While this particular plant looks attractive, it is very dangerous.
“The plant has tubers that can be buried up to two metres deep and is especially difficult to eradicate,” Mr Aaso said.
“While locally there are several small infestations in the coastal zone, mainly around North Haven, Bonny Hills and Dunbogan, the weed has been found in Port Macquarie.
“Glory Lilly, which is also a common backyard garden plant, is easy to identify, with vibrant red and yellow flowers which are currently in bloom,” MrAaso said.
“Council is currently undertaking a control program on known infestations in local bushland reserves.
“If people are aware of these plants in bushland or on private property, please contact Council. Members of Council’s Bush Regeneration Team will safely remove and dispose of them free of charge and provide a native alternative if desired,” MrAaso said.
