One doesn’t need to be a political analyst to project the result of the NSW State Election in March.. The State ALP have stuffed up government management and many are now not seeking re-election, to take advantage of their pensions, etc. Especially with the presumed sale of our electricity and are unlikely to maintain their majority, in the Lower House of Assembly and State Senate.
However, think! To me, a good effective politician is one that works for his electorate’s needs, not restricted by his/her party’s dictates. That’s why I vote Independent.
Some might think Independents lack power, particularly when deciding how to vote on various legislations. Actually they do not. Richard Torbay (Northern Tablelands) is one of the most progressive parliamentarians in NSW. And he now holds the Speaker’s chair.
Tony Windsor is a proven State and Federal Independent and Peter Draper (present State representative for Tamworth) is similarly focussed on his particular electorate’s needs. Without any affiliation with a major political party, they get funding for their electorates and that’s what counts!
I may add, when a major party gains a majority, they will certainly assist an Independent to keep their political opposition out of the seat! If they don’t, they are punishing voters and that is not democratic. Watch out coalition nominees don’t threaten this in their political electoral diatribes!
“Vote for Us or be Damned?”
However, in my opinion, consider the qualities of the various nominees, irrespective of their party affiliations. Maybe an Independent might be a wiser vote to ensure your electorate receives a fair go, irrespective of which major party gains government.
