The wheels are in motion for an exciting event on the Journey of Flavours calendar that marries magnificent food with frivolity and fun for the whole family.
Born out of the “Eat Street” concept, restaurant and cafe owners and Port Macquarie Hastings Council will rev up the push to promote Clarence Street as Port Macquarie’s dining hub, with a Food Festival and car rally this Sunday, February 27.
Council’s event coordinator Wendy Beverley said organisers were hoping the inaugural event would take off and become a highlight on the already tasty Flavour’s annual agenda.
Journey of Flavour is a brand for the Port Macquarie-Hastings region, which represents quality products and services in the food and beverage sector.
Ms Beverley said the car rally will kick off at 10am from the Food for Less carpark, with registrations from 9am in Eat Street.
Cars will head out of Port Macquarie to Laurieton and Blackmans Point to hunt down their destinations, and car rally answers.
Competitors will be required to answer foodie questions and have their passport stamped by each business before returning back to Clarence Street by 1pm.
The winners will be announced at 3pm.
More than $2000 in prizes will be up for grabs for students, families and corporates.
Organiser and sSs BBQ Barns owner Jo Gwatkin said, if the rally wasn’t enough to rev you up, the delicious streetside food stalls and al fresco dining at Eat Street’s finest restaurants and cafes, all day long, would.
She said the wharf end of Clarence Street to Short Street will be closed to traffic, but abuzz with tasty fare and fabulous activities from about 8am until 5.30pm.
“You could graze all day and enjoy all the flavours the Street has to offer — there’s such a wonderful mix,” she said.
“While on the rally too, cars will visit Journey of Flavours’ producers and can enjoy sampling what’s on offer.
“If you love food mixed with a bit of relaxing fun, you’ll love this event.”
With live entertainment, face painting and clowns, and more fun-filled activities for young and old, Mrs Gwatkin said it was a “not to be missed” event this Sunday.
The car rally costs $50 for a corporate car, and $20 for a family or student car.
