Seven suffer severe burns in camping fire

Seven people were injured, including three from Port Macquarie, after a fire in a camp ground on Saturday.
Emergency services were called to the Point Plummer Camping Ground about 11pm on Saturday, responding to reports of the fire.
Seven people were seriously burnt when gas from a damaged bottle was ignited by a campfire.
Four were flown to Sydney, including a 42-year-old man from Port Macquarie who sustained burns to 80 per cent of his body. He is in Royal North Shore Hospital in a very serious condition;
A six-year-old boy from Crescent Head sustained burns to more than 80 per cent of his body after the tent and sleeping bag he was in caught fire; a 40-year-old woman from Crescent Head is in a serious condition with burns to her legs, face, neck and arms; and a 15-year-old girl from Crescent Head was flown to Sydney in a serious condition with burns to her legs and hands.
Three people are being treated in local hospitals:
• A 15-year-old girl from Crescent Head is in Port Macquarie Hospital with extensive burns to her legs and feet. She is on a ventilator in a serious condition.
• A 20-year-old man from Port Macquarie is in Port Macquarie Hospital in a serious condition with burns to his legs and feet.
• A 20-year-old man from Port Macquarie was taken to Kempsey Hospital with significant burns to his feet, hands, body and legs and serious burns to his face. It’s expected he will be airlifted to Sydney later today.
A large number of campers came to the aid of the injured and rendered first aid until help arrived.
A crime scene was established and has been examined by specialist officers. Police have also spoken with a number of witnesses.
Police hope to interview the injured campers when they are well enough.
