Show true grit and commit to clean up

Residents will be wasting no time getting their hands dirty on Sunday.
The 2011 Clean Up Australia Day is set for March 6, with a number of key sites in the region already tagged for the event, with people of all ages asked to participate.
Many of the Port Macquarie Antique & Classic Car Club members will again be at Windmill Hill, (just south of Oxley Beach) from 9am to clean up litter in the park and surrounding bushland.
The Club has been cleaning this site for the last five years.
For further information, contact Brian Jacobsen on 6584 1909.
Volunteers will gather at Horton Street to don their gloves to tidy up at 10am.
Helping to fight climate change and celebrate 21 years of partnership with Clean Up Australia Day, McDonald’s’ Port Macquarie restaurants are encouraging local residents to join in at the site.
Port Macquarie Underwater Research Group (PURG), in conjunction with Port Macquarie Landcare group, will be conducting a Clean Up dive.
Divers will be diving between Lady Nelson Wharf (at the end of Town Green) down past the Fisherman’s Co-Op and back to the Westport Park boat ramp.
If you are a certified diver and you would like to help or if you would like to help on the shore, please contact Pete at Scuba Haven on 0407 457 542.
Lake Cathie will again share in the day’s activities.
The meeting place is the Picnic Shelter at the Foreshore Reserve between 8.30am and 10.30am.
Just arrive between those times and you will be allocated an area to look after and supplied with collection bags.
If you need more information or wish to suggest an area needing a clean up, you can call Leslie on 0421 886 171.
It is recommended volunteers wear sturdy shoes, a hat and gloves and apply a recommended sunblock.
