Tailor tips scales at 1.5kg

Port Macquarie Blue Water Fishing Club’s third outing for the year saw seven boats and
18 fisherpersons venture seaward on February 20.
Conditions at sea were fairly good despite the forecast but the strong southerly current
made fishing a little difficult but not impossible.
The Club’s barbecue and weigh-in commenced at 12 noon
and, as usual, was very well supported by members, families and friends.
Fish that greeted the weigh-master included pearl perch, snapper, morwong, tragalin, flathead, striped tuna and one nice tailor tipping the scales at 1.5kg.
The best boat on the day was ‘No Name’ skippered by David Clark with 13.240 points and the runner-up boat was ‘Quicksilver’ skippered by John Robertson with 12.460 points.
The Mid-Coast Marine award for the heaviest catch was won by John Robertson with 10.340
points, the Kempsey-Macleay Holden and Marine award for the best morwong was also won by John Robertson with a fish weighing .44kg and the Protect Pest Control prize for the best of other species ironically was won by our sponsor for this award Dave Simpson.
John Robertson finished the day fairly well considering his earlier ‘fuel problems’.
The Barry Ingram Painting Junior award was not contested and the Ken Little Fruit and Veg raffle was won by Chris King. The Clubs marble draw was won by Ron Hopper.
The Club’s next outing will be on Sunday, March 6.
The weigh-in and barbecue
will commence at 12pm at the marina.
