Our youth would receive financial assistance and mentoring support to help achieve their educational goals under a proposal being considered for the Mid-North Coast.
The Port Macquarie-Hastings Education & Skills Forum has formed a working group to establish a Mid-North Coast chapter of the Country Education Foundation of Australia (CEFA).
“This would bring a number of opportunities to young people in our region, who can be at a disadvantage to their metropolitan counterparts due to increased costs associated with distance,” Independent MP for Lyne Robert Oakeshott said.
“The CEFA, a national non-profit organisation, has identified a lack of vocational opportunities for young people in regional areas generally.
“A local chapter of the CEFA would help young adults on the Mid-North Coast to achieve their education and career related goals by providing financial support through non-cash grants and linking them to training partners, including TAFE and universities.
“Importantly as part of the criteria for support, recipients must have set some realistic, achievable goals and shown a determination to achieve them.
“By increasing the motivation and self-esteem of individual young people, this initiative has a broader goal of helping to build a better community,” Mr Oakeshott said.
