In spite of conservatives

I’ve read all the contributions to the climate debate and I’ve made up my mind on the basis of one immutable truth. I’ve been racking my brain to try and find an instance, in all social, technological and scientific human endeavours, where history has ever proven a ‘conservative’ was right. I couldn’t find one. I’d say that humanity has progressed, not because of conservatives but in spite of them.
Who could ever forget those classic conservative mistakes. For instance, when some guy said: “On this holiday it is the custom to free one prisoner of your choice. Who is it to be?” All the conservatives shouted “Barabas”. Oops!! And then there’s my personal favourite: “If God had meant man to fly he would have given him wings.”
If we can get rid of the conservatives in the Labor Party they might be worth another go. Then they might put some money into alternative power generation. After all, why would you spend an average of $100 million annually (per power station) on coal to heat water-driven turbines when you could dig a very deep well and let the earth heat the water. It’s a no brainer. All it needs is a progressive thinker to see the possibilities – conservatives need not apply.
I was going to conclude by saying that Conservatives should stick to what they’re good at but……
