Straight, narrow for unruly footpath

A notorious sloping footpath just south of the Ocean Drive Bridge in Lake Cathie has been fixed at long last.
The Lake Cathie Progress Association and local residents have applauded the action taken by Port Macquarie Hastings Council. The angle of the path was so severe, said the Association’s secretary Jack Jones, it was difficult for a fully fit person to use, let alone those with disabilities or in wheelchairs and the angle was too great for use by “Gophers”.
“All those people were forced to share the busy roadway with the passing traffic,” he said.
Mr Jones said the group’s Committee was heartened by actions of Council addressing this and other work in providing drainage to resolve flooding of residents’ yards in Fiona Crescent after even light rainfall.
“These were two of the Association’s top priorities and it is good to see Council now acting on issues that had been totally ignored by previously elected Councils for more than ten years,” he said.
