Hatton on high horse about power prices

Self proclaimed corruption fighter John Hatton returned to Port Macquarie last Thursday to have his say on rising electricity prices.
He voiced his opinions on the Town Green, near Edmund Barton’s statue.
Like Barton, Australia’s first Prime Minister and first Chief Justice of the High Court, Mr Hatton said he was a politician committed to honest, accountable government.
He said he was opposed to privatisation of public assets, like electricity, which pushed up costs.
As far back as 1994 Hatton said he got a law passed to stop privatisation of essential services. The Nationals and the Liberals coalition government killed it off, he said, and “now look what is happening”.
John Hatton instigated the Wood Royal Commission into NSW police corruption.
He took on the mafia, and now he wants to tackle government.
John Hatton is standing for the Upper House in the coming NSW election.
He said he was determined to reform government so the laws weren’t “manipulated” to suit the government of the day.  He wants proper process, openness and accountability governing all decisions.
“No more debacles like the electricity sales, no more Part 3A where party donors get special treatment in developments.” – And he wants independence for licensing, so communities across the State have a real voice in restraining violence caused by alcohol abuse.
