Residents are being asked to have their say on what would be the best way to save our historic icon and landmark — the lighthouse at Lighthouse Beach.
The Rotary Club of Port Macquarie Sunrise has been working tirelessly for some time, sourcing government and other funding to revive the dilapidated site.
And with the help of Port Macquarie’s recent MP Peter Besseling, that became possible.
A $40,000 government grant was fast tracked by the popular MP, which has been allocated to repaint the site, but Rotary Sunrise president Nik Sandeman-Allen said there were other issues that needed to be addressed.
He pinpointed access for the disabled and car parking as essential concerns.
He said Port Macquarie-Hastings Council was working alongside the Rotary Club on the project and a meeting had been set up with the public to drive it forward.
He said members of the community were invited to a forum, “where people have the opportunity to have a say about the future of our iconic lighthouse site” at 6pm tonight, Thursday, March 31 at Tacking Point Tavern.
