Take in the intricate art and stitching of quilts that will be on display at the Wauchope Showground from April 1 when the Wauchope Patchwork Quilters holds their biennial Quilt Show.
The Show will be held over three days from April 1, from 10am — 4pm (2pm on Sunday) and will showcase the work of Group members.
A travelling exhibition titled The Maharaja’s Garden, which has been created by members of the Australian Textile Arts and Surface Design Association, will also be on display.
The President of the Group Jo Stennett said this year’s Quilt Show will display the work of members “who have produced a remarkable range of quilts, from traditional to contemporary patterns, and for a myriad of uses”.
Mrs Stennett said that for each Show, the Group’s members challenge themselves to make an item on a particular theme.
The 2011 Challenge is called No Borders to the Imagination where members prepare an item with five borders inspired by five letters of the alphabet chosen randomly.
“Members have created items ranging from placemats to queen bed sized quilts, using traditional and interpretive designs,” Mrs Stennett said.
“Viewers will have the opportunity to vote for both the Challenge Quilts and the general display quilts,” she added.
The Treasurer, Mrs Lorraine Wedge, said that the Group is also conducting a raffle with two quilts, made by the Group, as prizes.
“The proceeds from the raffle will go towards the Wauchope Heated Pool Committee and also our Group’s Charity work,” she said.
“We have a strong charity element in our work and have donated quilts to various departments of Wauchope Hospital and Bundaleer, and also to Neo-Natal care units, Bourke Hospital, the Victorian Bushfires and the Queensland flood and cyclone victims,” Mrs Wedge said.
“Other local charities have received our quilts and the proceeds from raffling of quilts and we have also prepared sewing packages for Quilt Groups affected by the floods and cyclone in Queensland.”
Entry to the 2011 Wauchope Quilt Show will be $5, light refreshments will be available, and there will be a sales table where visitors can purchase items made by Group members.
