The Port Macquarie Hastings SES crew were declared
the overall winners of the
2011 Northern Rivers Area Disaster Competition last weekend.
Five SES teams from three different regions came together to compete in the competition which was held at the Broadwater
Sugar Mill. The Port team competed with other teams from Coffs Harbour, Lismore, Ballina and Tabulam. Each team consisted of six members, and included a Team Leader, Deputy Team Leader, First Aid Officer and three others.
The competition involved six separate disaster scenarios held over the two days and included activities such as Rescue from Depths, Rescue from Heights, INSARAG Mapping and Marking,
Lifting and Stabilising and Flood Boat Operations.
Being declared winners of the event, Port Macquarie Hastings now have the opportunity to compete in the next State Disaster Rescue Competition to be held in Cataract, NSW near Wollongong in June 2011.
The local team included Kevin Sherwood, Michael Ward, Michael Brumby, Christopher Dowse, Suzie Rollan and
Alex Boardman.
