Karting’s best were out in force on Sunday, April 10 for the second round of the Junior Challenge and the third Round of the Club Championship.
There were 57 entries on the day at Port Macquarie Kart Racing Club.
The weather was quite warm for April, with the track temperature around 29 degrees with hardly any breeze until later in the afternoon.
For the first time in a while, the club had eight separate classes and is now doing “time qualifying”.
It was great to see that the karters are now ready to race right from the first lap so that they can get a good grid position, a spokesperson said.
“This was the second round of the ‘Junior Challenge Series’ and it was great to see so many new competitors in this series.
“We now have a total of 37 competitors vying for the coveted prizes in this series,” the spokesperson said.
A raffle of a “Mother’s Day Pack” was kindly donated by Sandy Lockhart of ‘The Chair for Hair’ in Clarence Street, Port Macquarie. The money raised will help toward the improvements being made to the tower and track.
“Many thanks to the business people for their help.
“We have a very busy few weeks coming up, with the Rotax Pro Tour being held on Friday and Saturday, April 29 and 30 and May 1, also Pacific Coast Titles on May 7 and 8.
“Our club is also hosting Round 4 of the State Cup — North on the weekend of June 4 and 5.
“If anyone from the club would like to volunteer, we do need plenty of hands to run these events successfully, so please contact one of the committee to help us out.”
