Ironman brings out steel-force athletes

Peter Jacobs took out this year’s Urban Hotel Group Ironman Australia held in Port Macquarie on Sunday.
About 1500 athletes turned out to be challenged and thousands lined the streets to watch the annual sporting event.
The action started at 6.30am when competitors plunged into Hastings River for a 3.8km swim, then a 180.2km bike ride and 42.2km run.
Caroline Steffen took out the women’s division with
Port’s own Mel Cockshutt crossing the line first in her age division.
Jacobs won in just over 8.5 hours while Steffen completed the race in just over 9 hours 29 minutes.
