As being one of the rescuers at Shelly Beach in February, I would like to commend the Council on its speedy response to our request for more viable signage, as to the dangerous currents, by erecting a new sign on the grassy knoll leading down to the surf beach area from the car park at the southern end of the beach.
However, we feel the same new sign should be erected at the northern stairs (next to the “Dogs Prohibited” sign) leading down to the beach. As we live nearby, we walk Shelly beach on a regular basis and have noticed a lot of people, many of them tourists, use the northern stairs to gain access to the beach. Surely it makes common sense to erect a similar sign there to further prevent the occurrence of another tragedy.
