Port Macquarie’s arts hub has found its sporting heart, with the Glasshouse filled to capacity during Ironman week.
The centre was transformed from a gallery and theatre to Ironman Headquarters, hosting the compulsory athlete registration, the official Ironman merchandise store, a model hotel suite from title sponsor Urban Hotel Group, theatrette showings of past races and an expo selling all things triathlon.
The café on the ground level also operated all week as the Ironman social centre.
According to World Triathlon Corporation General Manager, Shane Smith, Ironman headquarters in the Glasshouse was one of the highlights of the new event format.
“Considering the weather during race week, we were able to provide a dry and spectacular hub for all the athletes and exhibitors to enjoy.
“Instead of being in a big tent on Oxley Oval we were able to file every single athlete into the Glasshouse theatre, in three separate sittings to attend a pre-race show that was as professional as any other race in the world,” said Mr Smith.
Joe Conneely, Manager Glasshouse, echoed those comments saying he was extremely proud of how the whole team handled the challenges presented during Ironman week.
