Council’s plans for parking are now on public display.
Almost 10 months of community consultation and technical evaluation has gone into the development of a draft Parking Policy and Strategy.
The Strategy combines feedback from the community with technical analysis and financial forecasting to outline proposed activities for the next 20 years divided into short, medium or long term priorities.
Director of Development and Environmental Services Matt Rogers believes that the development process has resulted in a comprehensive draft Strategy.
“Options for consideration in the short term such as reviewing parking time limits, developing a traffic management plan specifically for holiday periods or providing specific spots for cyclists and motorbikes all have potential to have a positive effect on parking supply without major cost,” said Mr Rogers.
There are a number of options for consideration in the draft Strategy that will generate significant impact and do come at a major cost, particularly those for the longer term.
“No doubt the option of further investigating paid parking will generate public discussion and that will be welcomed as part of the submission process. Identification of an appropriate site for creation of a central parking station for Port Macquarie in the next five to 10 years is also part of the strategy that will generate comment.”
The draft Parking Policy and Strategy will be on public exhibition throughout June, with information sessions designed to assist people in making valuable submissions due to be announced shortly.
