High school student Ben Robinson, 14, who featured on the front page of last week’s Independent, gave the first public performance of his award winning song “Little Things” at the Centenary Sunshine Hour.
The music score and lyrics of this song won the 2011 Harmony Day Song Writing Competition.
The song will be recorded and used to promote
Harmony Day.
The official ceremony will be held in Sydney on Tuesday, June 14.
Ben has been a frequent performer at the Port Macquarie Baptist Church Senior Citizens Sunshine Hour.
For the 100th celebration, Pastor Allan Johnston interviewed Ben before his performance.
“I have been coming to the Sunshine Hour since the age of 10,” Ben said.
“Since that age, I have been playing the piano and trombone and singing. More recently I have turned my attention to writing music.”
Eighty seniors enjoyed an afternoon of community singing, music solos and a home cooked afternoon tea. The Sunshine Hour is held every second month. The volunteers are already planning the next one to be held in August.
