In celebration of Breast Wishes, an uplifting new Australian musical about life, love, family and silicon, the Glasshouse is running an ‘uplifting’ competition which will support another important cause — Uplift Bras.
Uplift Bras (www.upliftbras.org) collects new and second hand bras and sends them wherever they have been requested (this August, a container is going to the Philippines). For women in some third-world countries a bra is often unobtainable or unaffordable. Receiving a bra from Uplift is often the only bra a woman will ever own.
So if you have a few unused bras and ones that don’t fit properly in your drawer, then it’s time to find them a new home — and be in the running to win some great prizes.
Collection hampers are located at the Glasshouse Box office and Millers store, Settlement City. Bras can also be dropped off at Port Macquarie, Laurieton and Wauchope Libraries. Entry forms are provided at the collection hampers. Please provide bras in a bag with the size written on it in readiness to be shipped to the Philippines.
More about Breast Wishes:
Premièring with a Gala Concert in 2008 at Sydney Theatre, followed by a 2009 capital city tour, Breast Wishes now travels to all states and territories as part of a 46-venue tour — making it the largest tour of a home-grown musical.
And it’s coming to the Glasshouse on June 15 and 16.
While the show directly supports the National Breast Cancer Foundation, the Glasshouse will also be donating $1 from every ticket sold to the Hastings Cancer Trust.
“Breast Wishes is providing the Glasshouse with an opportunity to promote a very important positive message, one which impacts on so many people in our community,” said Performing Arts Program Manager, Belinda Gibson. “We also wanted to take this opportunity to support one of our local organisations, the Hastings Cancer Trust, which directly benefits our own community.
“Not only will Breast Wishes ticket buyers get to have a fabulous time in our theatre, they are also directly contributing to two important causes and making our community a better place. So get your girlfriends, sisters, mothers, grandmothers, aunties — and the brave men in your life — and have a great time at the theatre. This show is a sophisticated and hilarious glimpse of cleavage and beyond which I promise will make your heart sing.”
