Some local roads in the Port Macquarie electorate have been described as being like Swiss cheese and the Minister for Roads has been invited to inspect them.
Speaking in Parliament, Local MP Leslie Williams said, “For too many years, local councils have had an uphill battle coming to terms with deteriorating roads.
“Heavy rains of last week have impacted further on an already deteriorating road network,” she said.
“Clearly, what this Council needs is funding to do these necessary road works.
“Our community deserves the right to drive on roads that don’t leave you shuddering as you drive on them,” Mrs Williams said.
“Simply drive around the Hastings and you get a sense that Council is having difficulty make ends meet when it comes to their road infrastructure.
“Clifton Drive, Lord Street, Hastings River Drive, Tallong Drive at Lake Cathie, The Boulevard at Dunbogan and parts of Lorne Road at Kendall are just a few which are in a terrible condition,” Mrs Williams said.
“Additionally, some of the roads on Council’s rolling works program identified as needing replacement or duplication include Ocean Drive, Hastings River Drive and Houston Mitchell Drive.
“Council is still trying to fully fund the replacement of Stingray Creek Bridge which has concrete cancer. That bridge is a vital link between North Haven and Laurieton.
“Council estimates the total cost is around $52 million,” she said.
“To get a better understanding of the condition of roads in the Port Macquarie electorate, I have extended an invitation for Roads Minister Duncan Gay to come back to the electorate and see first-hand what locals already know, we need help to fix our local roads,” Mrs Williams said.
