Absolute perfect conditions greeted the seven boats and sixteen fisherpersons from Port Macquarie Blue Water Fishing Club that ventured seaward on Sunday, June 26 for the Club’s last outing for the fishing year.
Although a bit on the chilly side, around dawn as the weather warmed up, so did the fishing. A light westerly wind, calm seas and little to no current all added up to a magnificent day’s fishing.
A large crowd attended the Club’s barbecue and weigh-in which commenced at 12 noon.
Fish that greeted the weigh-master included tragalin, jew fish, pearl perch, snapper, flathead, sampson fish, leather jackets, morwong and one fantastic bar cod tipping the scales at 7.56kgs.
The best boat on the day was ‘On-the-Prowl’ skippered by Darren Williams with 48.80 points and the runner-up was ‘Easybeat’ skippered by Geoff Shelton, with ‘Bazza’ skippered by Barry Ingram a close third.
The Mid-Coast Marine award for the heaviest catch was won by Darren Williams with 18.22 points, the Kempsey-Macleay Holden and Marine award for the best morwong was won by Ron Hopper with a fish of .72kgs and the Protect Pest Control prize for the best of other species was won by Darren Hunt with a bar cod weighing in at 7.56kgs.
The Barry Ingram Painting Junior award was hotly contested, with only half a point separating the three juniors who fished. The award was won by Jake Williams with 2.52 points.
The Ken Little Fruit and Veg raffle was won by Gwen Scott and the Club’s marble draw was won by Billy Vogel.
The Club’s next outing, which will be the first for the new fishing year, will be held on Sunday, July 10. The weigh-in and barbecue will commence at 12pm at the marina. Anyone wishing to join the Club or attend the weigh-ins and barbecue are most welcome.
