Save yourself from possible scams

Port Macquarie resident Warren Smith believed something was “dodgy” when a “foreign” person rang his house and tried to sell a power saving device over the phone.
He said the man, who he said had an Indian accident, rang him on several occasions telling him he had checked his power costs and this purchase was essential for his future power savings.
He asked Mr Smith to pay $159 for the device and his credit card details.
Mr Smith said it was timely, with electricity prices on the rise and the carbon tax announcement.
He said the “spiel” was somewhat convincing but, when he confronted the man about how he got his details and what number he was calling from, the man on the phone “turned on him and hurled abuse”.
Mr Smith wanted to warn other residents of this likely scam.
