Footbridge underway

WORK has begun on the new Kooloonbung Creek footbridge in Port Macquarie.
Council’s director of infrastructure Jeffery Sharp said residents would notice a significant increase in activity this week with major works in progress.
Traffic controls will be in place along Buller Street for the duration of the project but, initially, there will be no need for detours or diversions.
Pedestrian access in the vicinity of the Buller Street bridge will remain restricted until the footbridge is completed later this year.
The 2.5 metre wide single span cable stay footbridge is being constructed on the Hastings River side of the Buller Street bridge and will be a key pedestrian link between Westport Park and the Town Green and provide a safer pedestrian crossing of Kooloonbung Creek.
It will replace the current pedestrian access which consists of a narrow footpath on either side of the Buller Street bridge.
