After a fun-filled athletics carnival at Port Macquarie High School at the end of last term, it was announced on the students’ return to school that Town was the winning house. House Captains Rick Arnell, Tori Archer and School Vice-Captain Ajoy Cena were joined by House Patron Mr Keddie as they proudly held aloft the new trophy.
They were adamant that Town would hold the trophy again next year.
In addition, trophies were presented to the Year Champions. These were determined, not by age division, but by the best performer from each year group. Yr 7 champions were Jake Hawes and Sianna Pittis, Yr 8 Elliott Starr and Adam Grainger tied for the boys, while Molly Cassidy was the girls winner, Yr 9 Dale Thomas and Crystal Sanderson, Yr 10 Ratu Laginikoro and Jordin Sheaves, and Seniors Peter Gray-Thompson and Courtney Cooper.
After the reintroduction of houses, many students claimed it was the best carnival they had attended and are already looking forward to next time.
Yr 12 also provided nourishment on the day, running a barbecue and cake stall. SRC Co-ordinator Mark O’Brien was very pleased with the day. “A lot of the credit must go to the SRC members who took the initiative in conducting a survey and then acting on those results,” he said.
“However, the captains deserve a special mention for showing the leadership in getting the houses together, electing house and vice-captains, and encouraging students to get behind the concept.”
