Tree-tastic day for students

Students at Hastings Public School took a hands-on approach to National Tree Day for Schools on Friday.
It is the sixth consecutive year of planting native trees in the school grounds. This year, 19 gum trees were planted during lunchtime.
The koala food tree selection included blackbutts, grey gums and river red gums. These advanced 2m potted trees were donated by the Port Macquarie Landcare Community Nursery and the Koala Hospital.
The Environment Friends team of nearly 20 students were assisted by four volunteers from Port Macquarie Landcare.
The school rainforest project will be open to the public on Saturday, August 20 from 10am to 2pm, so you can ‘take a walk on the wild side’ during our school fete festivities.
