Rehearsals are resonating a high note of success for the Players Theatre, with its upcoming production, Little Shop of Horrors (the musical), looking shockingly on schedule, snappier and more snazzy than ever before. Under the auspices of first-time director Andrew Cockroft-Penman, publicity officer Jacob Merchant said the musical’s preps are on fire and they are ready to entertain eager audiences for the September 16 premier. “It’s a fantastic production and we are all over it [when it comes to the rehearsal schedule],” Mr Merchant said. “You can expect a ‘60s revival with a modern take on the classic musical including colour, music and a great cast.”
The storyline goes something like this, Mr Merchant said: Seymour, an orphan and a nerd, is taken in and given a job by Mr Mushnik, the owner of a run down florists in the seedy part of town.
Seymour spends his time doing menial tasks and dreaming of the shop assistant, Audrey.
One day, just after an eclipse of the sun, Seymour discovers a strange plant. He buys it and names it after his crush, Audrey II.
While caring for Audrey II, Seymour discovers the plant’s rather unique appetite.
The plant grows and grows, as does Seymour’s infatuation for Audrey, but who will get her first?
Attend the much anticipated musical to find out more.
