Works are scheduled to commence next week on $900,000 worth of improvements to two of Port Macquarie’s busiest roads.
Port Macquarie-Hastings Council will relay asphalt on a 500m section of Hastings River Drive between Humpty Back Bridge and Tuffins Lane. The road will remain open to traffic during the works but will be subject to traffic control.
The work is a further extension of resurfacing works along Hastings River Drive from the Pacific Highway and will include shoulder widening and the inclusion of cycleways.
This $500,000 road project is being funded through the RTA’s Regional Road Repair Program and supported dollar for dollar by Council.
Following the completion of this section of Hastings River Drive, Council will focus its efforts on a complete reseal of Clifton Drive.
This $400,000 project is being funded through Council’s ‘back to basics’ commitment to improving local road infrastructure.
Manager of Infrastructure Operations Gary Randall said Clifton Drive, one of the region’s major arterial roads catering for thousands of traffic movements daily, has been identified as a high priority for improvement by both Council and the community.
“High priority roads like Clifton Drive will be the primary focus of Council’s back to basics commitment to ensure regional and rural roads have a long-term future. It is also important we balance these major works with the ongoing demands of road maintenance across the entire LGA,” Mr Randall said.
Over the last three years, Council has increased spending on maintaining and improving local road infrastructure by more than $1.9 million.
